What are the Five Mindfulness Trainings?


During the Annual Summer Opening at Plum Village in France, Thich Nhat Hanh offers to respond to questions from participants on several occasions. The audio here is a 15-minute response to one of the questions on July 20, 2007.

How did the Five Mindfulness Trainings come to be?

  1. Even for those of us who live in the world and are not monastics, the 5 mindfulness trainings are a wonderful benefit to make us better people and more caring individuals

  2. Thich Nhat Hanh changed my life.  His simple, honest and gentle ways have helped me gain peace and bring compassion back to my thinking.  Walking meditation through Plum Village is the most peaceful experience to have.   I took the vows of the Five Mindfulness Trainings at a retreat in 2010 on Cape Cod and each day I try to live these trainings.   JLB
